For Students

Between 3 – 5 hours per week is set.

We will teach you how to manage your time because we recognise that you will make more progress on the course if you feel that you have the right balance between your free time and homework.

Always speak with us!

We can tailor the amount of homework to fit you so that you feel in control of what you are doing.

Know that you will not be alone in feeling like this, lots of students feel nervous. At Headway, you will have plenty of opportunity to work with and get to know other students. There will be times when you can help others who are struggling, and there will be times when you will need to get help from your friends.

Lots of things!

Ask for help in the lesson – you will get help from other students and your teachers.

Be ready to do independent research to build your knowledge.

Practice more of the types of questions that are causing problems, so you build familiarity and confidence.

NVR = Non-Verbal Reasoning

These questions test your ability to spot patterns in shapes and images.

You could be asked to rotate an image, reflect an image, identify the odd one out in a set of images, find the next image in the sequence etc. It helps if you know the names of 2D shapes and what makes them different.

VR = Verbal Reasoning

These questions test your ability to spot patterns in language, the alphabet and sometimes numbers.

There are a lot of different techniques that you will learn on the course at Headway.

It helps if you have a broad vocabulary, know your alphabet forwards and backwards and the position of letters in the alphabet.

For Parents

The 11+ course comprises of 2 types of classes:

Core Skills and Exam Skills classes.

Core Skills: You child will learn Maths, Comprehension, Vocabulary, VR Techniques, NVR Techniques.

2 hours per week.

Exam Skills: Your child will be given weekly tests under timed conditions to build your speed in readiness for the exam. In addition, we will identify and go through problem questions in more depth.

30 mins – 1 hour per week.

Results in homework indicate how students are progressing.

Weekly class tests in the Core Skills lessons tell us what recall students have in several topics.

Performance in class will be monitored to assess how students are coping with lessons.

A student who is consistently underperforming may be showing signs that 11+ tuition is not the right choice. We cover a wide range of topics across a short amount of time, and this level of challenge may be too big a leap for some students. Where this is the case, we will work with parents to come up with a solution that best fits your child.

Online classes are between 6 – 8 children.

Face-to-face lessons are between 10 – 12 children.

Core Skills = £35 weekly

Core Skills + Exam Skills Session 1 = £40

Core Skills + Exam Skills Sessions 1 + 2 = £45
